Holiday Season Begins With Free Shipping Offer From L.L. Bean
There’s no official day on the calendar for the beginning of the North American Holiday Season, but Oct. 1 will do as the unofficial opening day. First out of the box with a holiday 2007 perk for customers is L.L. Bean. It’s been a good year so far for the Freeport, ME-based outdoor gear and apparel merchant, with company-wide sales increases of 8%. As a result, L.L. Bean is offering a benefit to catalog and online customers: From now through Dec. 21, shipping for orders in Canada and the United States will be free, with no minimum purchase required. (Some categories will be exempt from the offer, notably home delivery of furniture.)
This is a big incentive for people to shop now, not only for the holidays but for themselves. Other apparel direct marketers will certainly follow suit, as they will not want to lose sales of comparable fall and winter merchandise to L.L. Bean.
